Calling all IVFer's

So Jay and I have been discussing the BIG question of IVF...
How many embies do we want to put back?
If I can get the embies to day 5 then I think I only want to put 1 back. I wouldn't mind twins, but I would rather a singleton. I am a tiny girl and would worry about complications. Plus there is always the money issue, putting 2 or more kids through college at once is crazy to think about!

So my question to you girls...
How many embies did you or will you put back? How did you and DH come to that decision?
What about during an FET? Should you put more back since it has less of a success rate?

Any other helpful information about IVF would be awesome!
Thanks girls!!

  1. I know my RE told me if I ever moved on to IVF that he'd only put 1 back in because I'm small and he'd be afraid of complications.

  2. When I did my IVF the RE put 2 back in. There was a good chance of twins, but that didn't bother us. I am small too, but my RE never voiced any concern about possible complications. I think when we do it again I am going to try to talk my RE into putting 3 back in. We figure more bang for the buck!

  3. We put 3 back for my IVF cycle and my FET cycle. Had all 4 survived the thaw I would have put all 4 back for my FET. For me I'm thinking the more the better since I havent had success. My RE said 3 was a good number based on there success rates and multiples rates. I would just do what your RE recommends. Good luck! So excited for you!

  4. It totally depends on what grades the embies would be. Probably no more than 3. 2 sounds like a good number to me. I can't wait for your IVF cycle to start! I'm excited for you!

  5. Our original plan was to put 1 really good embie back but they never made it that far. It was a 5dt and we put back 2 since they didn't get to be of "great" quality. And now here we are with twins! You just never know. GL with your IVF! When are you starting?

  6. If you are certain you want a singleton (with no chance of twins) then just put one back. Being young, the data is on your side for 1 on day 5. Ask your RE, mine will but 1-2 back on day 5 and in the end it will be our option.

  7. We haven't done IVF yet (it's on the docket for next cycle if this one didn't work) but I think the first cycle I'd put back 2 (I'm willing to have twins, but would rather not have more...) but if it didn't work maybe do three in the future...
